WELL WATER CAN CARRY BACTERIA — ADD UV DISINFECTION

Iron and sulfur systems don't address microorganisms. A point-of-entry UV system neutralizes bacteria and pathogens without chemicals — a critical safeguard for private wells.

Benefits of Well-Water Treatment

01

No More Orange Staining

Iron removal stops the rust-colored stains that ruin sinks, tubs, toilets, and laundry.

02

Eliminates Rotten-Egg Odor

Sulfur treatment removes the hydrogen-sulfide smell that makes well water unpleasant to drink and shower in.

03

Protects Your Plumbing

Correcting acidic or scaling pH prevents corrosion and buildup that shorten the life of pipes, fixtures, and water heaters.

04

Extends Equipment Life

Removing iron and sulfur upstream protects softeners, filters, and appliances from fouling and premature failure.

Iron, Sulfur & pH FAQs

How do I know whether I have an iron, sulfur, or pH problem?

Orange or brown staining points to iron; a rotten-egg smell points to sulfur (hydrogen sulfide); corroded pipes or blue-green staining can indicate low pH. A water test confirms exactly which — and often it's more than one.

What's the difference between greensand and air-injection systems?

Greensand uses a mineral media to filter out iron, manganese, and sulfur. Air-injection oxidizes those contaminants using air instead of chemicals. Both are effective; the right choice depends on your iron and sulfur levels.

Do I need to correct my water's pH?

If your water is acidic (low pH), it can corrode copper pipes and cause blue-green staining — a neutralizer raises it to a safe range. If it's alkaline (high pH), a reducer helps prevent scale and improves downstream equipment performance.

Will an iron filter also remove bacteria from my well?

No. Iron, sulfur, and pH systems don't disinfect. If your well tests positive for bacteria, add a UV disinfection system, which neutralizes microorganisms without chemicals.

What is Stream Shield and do I need it?

Stream Shield adds leak detection and automatic shutoff to select systems, protecting your home from water damage. It's an added safeguard, especially valuable for equipment installed in a finished space.

Can I run one of these with a water softener?

Yes — and it's often recommended. Treating iron and sulfur first protects the softener's resin from fouling, so both systems last longer and work better together.

Are these chemical-free?

Several are. Air-injection and greensand systems remove iron and sulfur without ongoing chemical dosing. Some injection-based pH and heavy-treatment systems use a metered solution — we'll tell you which applies to your setup.

Is professional installation required?

These systems connect at your main water line and often involve drain and electrical connections. We recommend professional installation for correct sizing, setup, and warranty coverage.
