City water questions, answered
Do I need a softener or a filter?
They solve different problems. A carbon filter removes chlorine, chloramine, taste, and odor. A softener removes the hardness minerals that cause scale and spots. Many city homes benefit from both, and a water test tells you which you actually need.
Does catalytic carbon remove chloramine?
Yes. Chloramine is harder to remove than plain chlorine, and catalytic carbon is the media designed for it. If your city uses chloramine, choose a catalytic carbon filter rather than standard carbon.
How long does the filter media last?
Whole-house carbon media typically lasts 5 to 10 years depending on your water and how much you use. Because our backwashing filters clean themselves, there are no cartridges to change in between.
Do I need RO if I already have a whole-house filter?
They do different jobs. A whole-house filter improves water at every tap. Reverse osmosis polishes your drinking and cooking water to bottled quality at the kitchen sink. Many homes run both, whole-house treatment plus an under-sink RO for drinking.
What size system do I need for my home?
Sizing depends on your number of bathrooms, peak water use, and what is in your water. Our specialists size the system to your home so you get full flow and full protection, without overspending.
Is installation available?
Yes. 360 Water offers licensed professional installation in Austin and the surrounding areas, and we support the system for its full life.
How often do filters need to be replaced?
Whole-house backwashing filters have no cartridges and the media lasts years. Under-sink RO filters are replaced roughly every 6 to 12 months and the RO membrane every few years. We help you stay on schedule.
